Snow in May at Sandy Ridge

May 9th, 2020 begins the “biggest week in birding” for Northern Ohio, so I decided to go visit Sandy Ridge Reservation in the Lorain County Metroparks to see what might be coming through. When I arrived there, I found that it had snowed overnight and was still in progress of snowing off and on. With the cold temperatures and the slight wind blowing these were less than ideal conditions for the warbler migration, which is supposed to be happening currently. Either way, there were still the usual suspects to be found around the wetlands. In the collection of photos below, you will the following:

  • A mother mallard with babies (probably just born within the past week)

  • Lesser Yellow Legs (migratory shorebird)

  • Male rose-breasted grosbeak (one of the migratory birds coming through)

  • Eastern bluebird

  • Bald Eagle in Flight
